How do I convert an image?

Save each image from the result list, or save them all at once. The name stays; only the extension changes.

Which format should I pick?

JPG: For photographs. Opens everywhere and stays small, but cannot hold transparency.
PNG: For transparency, text and shapes. A photograph gets much larger as PNG.
WebP: The smallest at the same quality. Use it for the web.

JPG for files you send to people, WebP for the web, PNG when you need transparency.

What changes when I convert PNG to JPG?

The file gets much smaller, but transparent areas are filled with white and that loss cannot be undone. Logos and lettering with hard edges are better left as PNG.

Why does JPG to PNG make the file bigger?

PNG saves without loss, so a photograph can come out several times larger. That is the normal result of the combination, and the result line says plainly that it grew.

It saves in the format you picked even when the file grows. A file you believe is PNG is never quietly left as JPG.
